1541
1541 Users guide : understanding how something works often precedes fixing, so here's the user manual.
1541 Maintenance guide by Peltier : probably the best manual I've found, schemes, home-made tools to set up drive speed and calibrate the drive (without oscilloscope or calibration disk), step by step diagnosis.
1541 Maintenance guide by Peltier : "new" version.
1541 Maintenance resources by Ray Carlsen : many useful things, even a printable transit card if you've lost yours.
1541 head alignment by Retro64 : a very good overall guide covering and illustrating many aspects.
1541 general maintenance by Retro64 : a good overall maintenance introduction.

1551 :
1551 Maintenance resources by Ray Carlsen : schemes.

1571 :
1571 Maintenance resources by Ray Carlsen : once again, many resources and tips.

1581 :
1581 Maintenance resources by Ray Carlsen : many resources, including topics like the power supply. Maintenance manual available too.

Exclamation General precautions (important !)
Posted by: TheDoc - 11-25-2017, 06:54 AM - Forum: Rules & Security - No Replies

Be warned : many things here have to do with electronics, and also with electricity. You MUST know what you are doing in terms of security and personal safety while handling such things, and take all the required precautions before you try to fix or even just open something that might be dangerous and potentially lethal. Please be careful, if you’re not sure about how to do it , don’t do it. The responsibility is ultimately up to you.

Some general guidelines about the right behavior can be found here, read these first :

Information General rules (apply everywhere)
Posted by: TheDoc - 11-25-2017, 06:50 AM - Forum: Rules & Security - No Replies

Dr Vintage is a community website about fixing/raising from the dead old hardware, mostly electronical. There is no room here for selling " complete " hardware machine, ie a complete computer, console, a monitor or whatever peripheral. You can sell spare parts, used or new, replacements, or improvements (cardtrige, cable, new drive, adapter …). The only exception is about power supply units (PSU) that are allowed for sale. Professionals will, at a later time, be able to provide third maintaineer services to fix materials in their own workshops/companies. The conditions for professionals to provide such services will be provided in time.

Behaviour:
Trolling, foul language and offensive or inflammatory comments will be moderated. Contentious topics, such as discussion about politics or religion, are not allowed.

Information Technical subsections organizational rules
Posted by: TheDoc - 11-25-2017, 06:24 AM - Forum: Rules & Security - No Replies

Of course, those rules come after the general rules of the forum.

Each and every technical subsection ("Computers/Commodore 8 bits" or "Consoles/Sega" in example) has two or three subforums :

- Documentation :
Manuals, procedures, datasheet, guides, anything helping the understanding of fixing something or leading to fixing something. It may be something to read as a document, a video or link an article on a website.

- Improvements :
Improvements are things made to improve the existing (a cartridge, a Gotek drive, an SDIEC ...), and spare parts replacements/improvements (A new IC replacing an old one, ...)

- Maintenance :
Here we share the problems we meet, and how we handle those, with specific cases we meet and handle. It's the place we interact the most in the technical forums Smile

These guidelines are here to make things clearer and faster for everyone :

- Put the machine reference or peripheral model first in your topic :
[C64] [1084S] [A500] [PSONE] [520ST] [C128] [MEGADRIVE] [ZX81] [1541] ... etc

Example : [C64] troubleshooting datasheet

- Be as precise as possible, any information is useful
