Fixing broken rear locks on a C64 Breadbin
#1
Here's how to replace broken " hooks " that lock the rear of the C64.

You'll need :
- Polymorph type plastic balls (13 € sur Amazon)
- 2 containers, a big and a small one, a big spoon
- A cutter
- Some strong glu (cyanolite type works well)
- Boiling water

Voici le " modèle " qui nous accompagnera au long de la remise en état.
Here is the " model " that will help us along the repair.

Here we go with those broken " hooks ".

Let's make everything ready, the container that'll host the balls and the boiling water, and something to protect the mate from high temperature

- Take one or two spoons of plastic balls and put the aside (or directly into the big container)
- Have a little container to put the molten plastic, and keep the spoon to manipulate the plastic in the hot water, mix it, or put it aside.
- Boil some water (enough to cover the balls) and put it inside the big container. Be careful with boiling water.
- When the balls become transparent, mix a little and move the " plastic magma " (or a part of it) into the smal container.

You can check the plastic after a few tens of seconds when it's been removed from the water, with your fingertips, it should be warm but not hot, and ready to manipulate with your bare hands. Remove a chunk as you can see in the next picture (I've put it near a part of the C64 so that you can have an idea of the size).

The easiest way to proceed with molding is to use the right hinge, when the C64 is in front of you. With your C64 closed, put the plastic and molder by pushing it.

Once applied, it holds

Wait for 2 or 3 mins and unmold

You can now carefully (beware of your fingers !) cut the excess of plastic

Once cut, you can check that everything gets in place.

We can see that it fits well, we can even lift the inferior cover !

The remaining parts can be moldered again ! Yes, molder these and do it again Smile

You now have to glue the hinges, I recommend you do from left to right, so that you can keep using the right one to molder, this one being the most accessible

Glue, adjust and press ... I sometimes had to scratch some little excesses of plastic before I glue the hinges for a better adherence

Done ! There we are !
